Porcelain Bridges

Dr. Bowcutt would like to remind all of his Cedar Park, TX, patients how important it is to replace missing teeth. Even if you’re missing just a single tooth, it can negatively impact your oral health in the long run.

When you’re missing one or more teeth, the rest of your teeth will actually shift in place over time to fill in the gap left behind by the missing teeth. When that happens, it can throw off your bite and even make it more difficult to properly chew food. Porcelain bridges are an excellent way to replace missing teeth.

Important Information about Porcelain Bridges

Porcelain bridges consist of one or more porcelain crowns that are mounted onto a metal frame. The frame has brackets on either end, which connect the frame to the patient’s existing natural teeth. The result is an appliance that fits snugly into the patient’s mouth and effectively replaces missing teeth. The porcelain material used to create the crowns is not only extremely strong and durable; it is also virtually undetectable to other people. That’s because the porcelain crowns are made to almost exactly match the shade of the patient’s natural teeth.

Generally speaking, bridges come in two styles: fixed and removable. Fixed bridges are intended to be permanent appliances in the patient’s mouth, while removable bridges are those that can be removed by the patient while the person sleeps overnight or when eating meals, for example. Both types are extremely durable appliances that typically last for many years. Dr. Bowcutt offers both styles of bridges to his patients, and he can help you decide which would be the best choice for you.
