Dr. Bowcutt knows how important it is for his Cedar Park, TX, patients to feel comfortable and at ease during their visits to our office.
Some people have a fear of going to the dentist, but it’s fair to say that most people experience at least a little anxiety while in the dentist chair.
That’s why Dr. Bowcutt provides two different types of sedation dentistry methods for his patients.
Nitrous Oxide
If you experience anywhere from a mild to a moderate level of anxiety about your dental appointments, nitrous oxide can help. Also referred to as “laughing gas,” this type of sedation is administered here in our office just prior to your procedure. It will leave you awake but completely at ease. It may even make you feel a little giddy, which is how it got its name! You’ll remember your procedure, but you won’t feel any anxiety. Better still – the effects wear off quite quickly. That means you’ll be able to drive yourself to your appointment and back home again afterward.
IV Sedation
People requiring oral surgery – such as wisdom teeth removal, for example — need something much stronger than nitrous oxide during their procedure. For these individuals, Dr. Bowcutt provides IV sedation. This is helpful for many reasons. Not only does it help relax the patient prior to and during the procedure; it also helps the patient to remain still and relaxed during the entire oral surgery process, which is sometimes more lengthy than other dental procedures. This method involves Dr. Bowcutt administering the sedation intravenously to the patient here in our office just before the procedure. With IV sedation, you’ll be able to drive yourself to our office, but you’ll need a ride home afterward.
