Full or Partial Dentures

Whether you’re missing just a few teeth or all your teeth, Dr. Bowcutt knows how this can impact your life. Not only does it make it more challenging (or sometimes impossible) to properly chew your food, it can even affect the way you speak.

If you don’t replace missing teeth, it can alter your natural bite and cause other problems, such as headaches and jaw pain, for example. That’s why Dr. Bowcutt is so pleased to offer his Cedar Park, TX, patients with their choice of either full or partial dentures.

What You Should Know about Full or Partial Dentures

Dentures come in two general types: full and partial. Just as the name implies, full dentures are intended for people who are missing all their teeth, and partial dentures are designed for people who are just missing a few. Patients can expect to care for either type of denture in the same way. They’ll need to use a good quality denture cleaner on their appliances, and the dentures should be kept soaking in water or a vinegar and water solution when they’re not in use.

Full sets of dentures come with another distinction: they can be either conventional or immediate. Conventional dentures are provided to patients who have already lost their teeth and have fully healed gum tissue. Immediate dentures, on the other hand, are provided to patients who have just had their teeth extracted. The dentures are fitted onto gum tissue that has not fully healed, which means that immediate dentures will need to be relined at some point in the not-too-distant future since gum tissue changes shape as it heals. The obvious advantage in immediate dentures is that the patient doesn’t have to live without teeth for a period of time after the extraction procedure.
