Tooth Extractions

It’s fair to say that all of us would prefer to keep our natural teeth for as long as possible. Dr. Bowcutt feels that way too. But the unfortunate truth is that tooth extractions are sometimes the only solution to a dental problem. Now here’s the good news: thanks to modern dental methods and dental sedation techniques, tooth extractions are simpler than ever before. Dr. Bowcutt wants to assure his Cedar Park, TX, patients that tooth extractions are usually done quickly and easily right here in our office.

When Tooth Extractions Are Necessary

When a tooth has become so damaged that it can’t be repaired using other dental procedures, tooth extractions are sometimes the only alternative. But there are other situations that might call for an extraction. If you have an infected tooth and you already suffer from a compromised immune system, for example, Dr. Bowcutt may recommend that the tooth be extracted as a safety measure. People with advanced gum disease that has been left untreated for long periods of time may end up with loose teeth that need to be extracted. And if you have an impacted tooth – in other words, one that doesn’t fully erupt through the gum surface – Dr. Bowcutt may suggest extracting the tooth.

At-Home Follow Up is Important

Although the tooth extraction process itself is often simple and quick, that’s only part of the process. In fact, some of the most important steps are performed by the patient at home afterward. Dr. Bowcutt will provide a full set of instructions on how to properly care for the extraction site at home after the procedure to ensure fast and complete healing.
